Short biography
Klaas Knot is a Dutch economist and former central banker. He served as President of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) from 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2025 and chaired the Financial Stability Board (FSB) from 2 December 2021 to 30 June 2025. In these capacities, he was an ex officio member of the Governing Council and General Council of the European Central Bank, the European Systemic Risk Board, the IMF’s Board of Governors, and the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements.
Knot began his career at DNB and also worked at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C. He later held senior roles at the Dutch Ministry of Finance and has also been associated with the Dutch Pensions and Insurance Supervisory Authority. Alongside his policy work, he holds academic affiliations as honorary professor at the University of Groningen and honorary professor of monetary stability at the University of Amsterdam, and has published widely in monetary and financial economics.
Since 1 October 2025, he has served as envoy for the Lelylijn project, advising on the financial and economic pathways to make the project feasible.
